Result: Redgate Lost, 1 - 2
Scorers: Mike Wardle
Man Of the Match: Mike Wardle.
Report: Easing the new team in
After a perfect pre-season and several summer signings Rovers were keen to get the season off to a stormer.
With a very successful pre-season under their belts, Rovers started the game with gusto. Debutant and MOM Mike Wardle slotted home after some great build up play down the right flank and fired past the opposition keeper to give the lead. Only a few minutes later a spectacular goal from Essemay levelled proceedings. The central midfield was outstanding, however in the second half match fitness let Rovers concede, and the scoreline did justice to the match.
Page Celtic V Redgate Rovers
at Thingwall Lane on 5 / 4 / 2003
Result: Redgate Lost, 0 - 1
Scorers:
Man Of the Match: Richie Byrne.
Report: Hard Pitch - Hard Game
Rovers took no points from a poor game, played on a solid soil pitch, which did not allow either team to produce any passing football. The goal scored by the opposition was one of the few chances in the game, with the two centre backs caught out by the bobbling ball. MOM Richie Byrne was solid throughout.
at Jericho Farm, Aigburth on 30 / 3 / 2003
Result: Redgate Drew, 1 - 1
Scorers: James Beckingham
Man Of the Match: Everyone!.
Report: Another superb team performance adds momentum to end of season points flurry
After last weeks excellent victory over Finn Harps, Rover's were understandebly confident going into this match. Rovers were unlucky to concede early in the match, an Essemmay winger capitalising on a Rovers mistake. With Neil Mackay in outstanding form, the opposition could not score, but a long ball from Wesley O'Brien found the energetic Dave Morton, only for the keeper to check his run in the box. The referee awarded a Penalty, and Rovers leading marksman slotted it home to level the scores. The match turned into a midfield affair during the second half, neither goal really threated apart from Adrian Richmond hitting the upright from a tight angle with just a few minutes left on the clock. Another battling Team performance from a team empowered by spirit and resolve.
Finn Harps V Redgate Rovers
at Peter Lloyd Leisure Centre, West Derby on 22 / 3 / 2003
Result: Redgate Won, 2 - 1
Scorers: Dave Morton Gavin Beat
Man Of the Match: Chris Hall.
Report: Rovers inspired on solid ground
Rovers dominated the first half, with excellent team goals, the first from Dave Morton after a defensive slip, then Gavin Beat scoring a superb lob from 40 yards after some great build up play from Chambers and O'Brien. After the break it was back's to the wall with Finn Harps commanding the half, however a superb defensive performance from the back four and the keeper stopped the onslaught. They did pull a late goal back, but it was merely consolation, Rovers coming out worthy victors.
Redgate Rovers V Page Celtic

The Elephant V Redgate Rovers
at Garston Leisure Centre on 8 / 3 / 2003
Result: Redgate Lost, 0 - 2
Man Of the Match: Neil Beckingham.
Report: A pitch fit for an Elephant, Hippo and a Duck
On a terrible pitch, Rovers battled valiantly, unable to play any football in the mud bath. Ian Hall was outstanding again, as was Tim Henderson who was subbed with a Broken Collar Bone as Rovers injury nightmare continues, but MOM Neil Beckingham covered a lot of ground and played very well. A solid performance was also put in by Player/Manager Simon White, but the Elephant ran out 2-0 winners on the day.
Redgate Rovers V Blueline
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 1 / 3 / 2003
Result: Redgate Won, 3 - 2
Scorers: James Beckingham James Beckingham Adrian Richmond

Report: Send them home in a Taxi
After a slow start Blue Line struck first with a deflected shot creeping into Ian Halls inside post. Rover's responded immediately though with Matt Henderson sent tumbling in the box - James Beckingham dispatched the penaly. Immediately after the break Beckingham scored his second sending Rovers into the lead, and then MOM Tim Henderson supplied a deft cross for substitute Adrian Richmond to increase the lead. Rovers weathered the storm and ran out deserved winners.
Redgate Rovers V Rolls Royce
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 8 / 2 / 2003
Result: Redgate Lost, 0 - 10
Man Of the Match: Neil Mackay.
Report: One sided action
This tie against the league leaders was an extremeley one-sided affair, with the opposition controlling the game from start to finish. Rovers' we're stopped from playing any football by the Rolls Royce midfield, and only heroics from the outstanding keeper and MOM Neil Mackie kept the scoreline to 10.
Redgate Rovers V Red Rum
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 25 / 1 / 2003
Result: Redgate Drew, 3 - 3
Scorers: Dave Morton Paul Hayes Adrian Richmond
Man Of the Match: Adrian Richmond.
Report: Rovers close 25 point gap to top!
Rovers fielded a side weakened by injury, but managed to pull of a superb result against the top side, ahead by 25 points! After 10 minutes, the lively Dave Morton pressurised the defender into slotting it past his own keeper, and shortly afterwards Paul Hayes followed a brilliant Gavin Beat shot in to score Rovers second. After the interval, the opposition pressed and pulled one back, for Adrian Richmond to score his third in four games. Red Rum managed to equalise, but Rovers showed an excellent team spirit to achieve a point. Joint MOM Neil Mackay and Paul Hayes.
Blueline V Redgate Rovers
at Buckley Hill, Netherton on 6 / 1 / 2003
Result: Redgate Lost, 2 - 3
Scorers: Mark Chambers James Beckingham
Man Of the Match: Wesley OBrien.
Report:
Sloppy first half play meant three early mistakes left Rovers with a huge hill to climb, but in the Second half, Redgate began to play the flowing football that has been recently lacking. Limiting the opposition to one shot superbly saved by Neil Mackie, Rovers peppered the opposition goal, scoring late goals through a sweet Mark Chambers strike and a James Beckingham goal. Unfortunately it was too little too late.
Redgate Rovers V Waterloo Grammar School Old Boys
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 14 / 12 / 2002
Scorers: Dave Morton
Man Of the Match: Richard Houghton.
Rovers started sluggishly and conceded from a penalty late in the first half. The second half was no better and after losing another goal through a scrappy free-kick, Dave Morton stole a well taken consolation goal in injury time. MOM Richie Houghton was outstanding throughout. Skipper Wesley O'Brien was unfairly sent off for Handball on the line.
Red Rum V Redgate Rovers
at Grammar, Croxteth on 5 / 12 / 2003
Result: Redgate Won, 1 - 6
Scorers: Tim Henderson
Man Of the Match: Tony Williams.
In a goal-less first half, Rovers were under pressure from the opponents attacking play, and rarely threatened the oppositions goal. After the interval the tide turned and Rovers created attack after attack. The referee gave a ridiculous free kick which the opposition scored from, and then a penalty left Rovers with a mountain to climb. Spurred into action, Redgate played some great football and Tim Henderson pulled a goal back with minutes remaining. MOM Mark Bell was outstanding in midfield.
Redgate Rovers V Rockville (Wallasey)
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 7 / 1 / 2003
Result: Redgate Won, 3 - 1
Scorers: James Beckingham James Beckingham James Beckingham
Man Of the Match: Clayton Birchall.
The game started in the best possible way when a blantant push on the brilliant Pete Baker gave James Beckingham the chance to slot a penalty and open the scoring. The opposition scrapped a goal back seconds later to level the scores. The following five minutes was a pleasure to watch, and a Clayton Birchall back heel allowed Beckingham to cap off a lovely move with his second. In the second half Redgate took the majority of the possesion but the oppositions keeper was very good, but could not stop joint MOM Beckingham sealing his hat-trick with another great goal. Keeper Neil Mackay was also outstanding, commanding his area and claiming everything. A great team performance.
Redgate Rovers V Finn Harps
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 6 / 12 / 2003
Result: Redgate Lost, 1 - 5
Scorers: Clayton Birchall
Report: Another sloppy defeat
The boys were full of confidence going into this match, with three matches unbeaten, but a sloppy game ensued. The wind played a big part, but mistakes lead to the opposition scoring two goals in the first half. Neil Mackie in goal was brilliant but he could not stop the opposition adding three more after the break, but the brilliant Clayton Birchall popped up to lob the keeper from outside the box for a consolation goal. MOM Chris Hall deserves a mention for his good defending, keeping the scoreline respectable.
Redgate Rovers V Essemmay Old Boys
at Carr Lane, Ainsdale on 6 / 11 / 2003
Man Of the Match: Mark Chambers.
Report: Poor performance from Rovers
A much changed team due to a stream of injuries meant that Rovers got off to a slow start, and neither side really had any chances. Mark Kenyon and Pete Baker were outstanding up-front, with MOM Mark Chambers in outstanding form. The two Hall brothers Ian and Chris were un-passable at the back, with Neil Mackie only having to make one save all game. Minutes before the end however a deflected cross gave the opposing team a goal and all the points in a game that Rovers should have drawn.
Waterloo Grammar School Old Boys V Redgate Rovers
at Manor High, Crosby on 27 / 10 / 2003
Result: Redgate Drew, 2 - 2
Scorers: Peter Baker Mark Chambers
Rovers started off brightly but conceded early on. Pete Baker curled a superb shot which missed the post by inches. He followed up seconds later though with a goal of the season contender - bent around the keeper from 30 yards. In the second half the opposition scored again but James Beckingham was put through by MOTM Mark Chambers, slotting home to equalise, and that is how it ended.
at Peter Lloyd Leisure Centre on 20 / 8 / 2003
Report: Debutants steal the show
Rovers' opening game in the I Zingari league got off to a shaky start as the otherwise superb referee gave a penalty to the visitors Finn Harps. They duly converted, but Rovers then took the game to them. Of several debutants, mom Ritchie Byrne was superb in the centre of defence. Redgate produced some fantastic play, creating plenty of work for the opposition keeper, but a solid goalkeeping performance by Neil Mackie stopped the visitors adding to their lead. Redgate drew level with a brilliant move up the right hand side just before half time. In the second half, the visitors were reduced to half chances until a corner ball ricocheted off the upright and was smothered in by the attacker, leaving Rovers very unhappy with the result.
